We’ve lived in Hawaii for years and have spent many weekends tracking down our favorite brunch hotspots on the island. Whether you’re looking for a bottomless-boozy breakfast to enjoy with your significant other or a family-friendly breakfast spot right on the beach, you’ll find the perfect destination in our list of best brunch locations on the Big Island.
Island Lava Java, Kailua-Kona
Lava Java serves up a delicious breakfast spread. It’s become a popular spot in recent years due to the incredible, 100% Kona coffee and a great menu of Hawaiian-style brunch items, so be sure to get there early or book a reservation. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, we recommend the pull-apart cinnamon roll. It’s great for sharing and is so good, it’s become a bit of a cult classic among Lava Java patrons.
Merriman’s, Waimea
Merriman’s in Waimea is the perfect spot for a brunch date with your significant other. The peaceful atmosphere and creative menu earned Merriman’s the title of Best Big Island restaurant for fifteen years running. Most of the food is locally sourced from Hawaiian farmers and each dish features unique flavors with a nod to traditional Hawaiian cuisine.
The Fish Hopper, Kona
If you’re looking for brunch with a view, you can’t do much better The Fish Hopper. Sip your bloody mary while enjoying wonderful panoramic views over Kailua Bay. The menu is extensive and offers options that are sure to please anyone, making it the perfect place for a big group. If you’re looking for a little Hawaiian flavor, we recommend the macadamia nut and coconut french toast or the Dungeness crab benedict.
ULU Ocean Grill, Four Seasons, Hualālai
The ULU Ocean Grill at the Four Seasons is another great spot if you’re looking for upscale al-fresco dining. The restaurant works with the island’s finest farmers to bring you some of the most delicious farm-to-table dishes on the Big Island. It was also voted one of the 100 most romantic restaurants in the U.S. as well as one of the 100 best outdoor dining experiences by OpenTable.
Lava Lava Beach Club, Waikoloa
This is is for all you brunchers who believe that it’s just not brunch if you’re bloody mary isn’t stacked a mile high with fixings. The Lava Lava Beach Club is famous for their booze-filled menu. Choose from one of seven different kinds of bloody marys paired with something from their a la carte brunch menu. The restaurant sits right on the ocean allowing patrons to dig their toes in the sand while sipping cocktails.
