KONA BREWING TO OPEN NEW BREWERY

Kona Brewing, Hawaii’s favorite craft brewer, is set to open a 100, 000 barrel high-efficiency brewery. A year-long search for the new property ended with a deal to open the 30,000 square foot brewery and canning facility just down the street from the original location. It will sit on a 2.6-acre site in Kailua-Kona. After two decades of business, Kona Brewing Company is excited to offer its customers and the community new and cutting-edge products and technologies. This business truly represents why anyone would want to live on the Big Island.

The History of Kona Brewing

Cameron Healy and his son, Spoon Khalsa, are the founders of Kona Brewing Company. They had a passion for fresh, local beers and wanted to create their own. Their vision has been extremely successful, with Kona Brewing becoming the largest brewery in Hawaii. They are equally passionate about not just great beer, but in supporting the local community in every way they can. They are one of the top craft beer brands in the world but never lose sight of their local influences and Hawaiian customers. Anyone would be lucky to have this brewery in their neighborhood, and with homes for sale on the Big Island, it could be you. Local food and drink on the Big Island is as fresh and delicious as it gets.

Supporting the Local Community

They invested $20,000 to produce their island hops in the state-of-the-art facilities. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in every stage of the brewing process. The use of high-efficiency technology will not only take production to 100,000 barrels per year, but it will support the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility. It will include renewable energy and water conservation, while continuing to produce the company’s wildly popular beers. Additionally, the use of local supplies and vendors will support the Kona economy, and the new pub will provide needed jobs. They are set to break ground on the new brewery this spring and open in spring 2018.

Since green initiatives are at the heart of the brewery, the crown jewel of the brewery will be its high-efficiency craft brewing system, which will conserve grain and water. Combined with a recycling system, this brewing method will allow Kona Brewing to generate nearly half of its energy needs and reduce its water usage to less than half what most craft breweries use. All of this will maintain the company’s long-running commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability into the future.

These new brewing methods will allow for maximum production for the most popular beers and some new ones to come. Beer in cans has become increasingly popular, and the new canning facility will make way for more beer options in this packaging. Of course, they will continue to produce their most popular brews, Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave Golden Ale. Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa are truly grateful to the community for all their support over the years and are excited for what’s to come.  Your Big Island real estate agent can help make you a part of this amazing community.
