Kealakekua is located between Captain Cook and Honalo, between the Mamalahoa bypass road and highway 11. It stretches up into the mountain slightly with residential properties dotted across the hillside. The main interest is along the bypass road, where residential streets wind through smaller neighborhoods, luxurious homes, beautiful views, and spacious homesites. Although Kealakekua is primarily between these two major highways, it is a gateway to several luxury communities such as Hokuli’a, nestled on the west side of Highway 11 overlooking the beautiful coastline.
Homes closer to Highway 11 are in a smaller subdivisions such as KeeKee and Kaela Plantation. These homes can start anywhere from $350,000 on up with homeowner association dues starting at about $25 per month.

Those in the luxury community of Hokuli’a are typically situated on lots of over 1 acre and up to 5 acres and homeowner association dues of nearly $2800. This guard gated luxury community features and equity membership at the Club at Hokuli’a as well as multiple amenities such as a fitness facility, lap pool, tennis courts, massage rooms, a yoga pavilion, and access to the Shoreline Park Preserved. Of course, all residents also have access to the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
Schools & Nearby
Residents are still part of the North Kona school district and are served by the Konawaena elementary school, the Konawaena middle school, and the Konawaena high school. The elementary school is about a half a mile from most homes in Kealakekua and the middle school and high school are about a mile and a half away.
Kailua Kona is about 20 minutes north or 10 ½ miles and the Kona country club and beaches are less than 10. But, you don’t have to go far to enjoy all of the great shops and restaurants right in Kealakekua. Nestled right in the small town is a public library, preschools, banks, grocery stores, a post office, and several cafés such as Gypsea Gelato and Keei Café, perfect for seared rare Ahi tuna salad, shrimp salads, mahi-mahi over steamed Jasmine rice or one of their signature desserts.
Dotted throughout the hillside and community are multiple vacation rentals, air B&Bs, and quaint little bed and breakfasts. This makes the perfect location for a quiet getaway, scenic vistas, or ubi ice cream at Dave’s Hawaiian Ice Cream.
